Hello, Ms. J here, in the beautiful mountains, and starting life over after moving here 5 years ago, and losing my husband. Now it is just a few dogs and me and all the wild critters that show up from time to time. The first year was the hardest being alone and not sure what to do with my time.
I decided I wanted to learn to play a musical instrument, so since I am a mountain woman now, a Dulcimer seemed a good idea. I am now learning, teaching myself, and going to workshops once in a while.
And, BTW, my daughter made me do this, but may be a good idea. I would love to hear from anyone that is also a Dulcimer player.

I'm a friend of Vicki's here in Chile(although I'm in rural central Chile. Although Vicki and I have never actually met except through the internet(hehehe).
I love your new blog, it's nice to see your dog family, especially the beagle since they are my boyfriends favorite(I think he's wanted one since he was a boy and he's 60 now).
Please post often so we in the South can see how things are in the North. If I'm not mistaken, you are entering beautiful summer(sigh)and we...are cold.
The dulcimer-can I learn if I don't have a musical body? Just kidding, I love music but can't sing a note(at least on key). They say it's been passed down in my family for years. A mother long ago sang off key to her baby and the baby learned to sing off key...and so on and on. Please tell us more about the dulcimer, I know some musical people.
I wanted to add-American Indian history is fascinating to me. And the internet is a library in itself. Everything I search for has interesting reading.
And wine, I share a love for;there is no bad wine here(I live near Concha y Toro).
Laura, in the far past, I played several instruments, but never a string one. Vicki is the guitar player and singer. The Dulcimer is very easy to learn, but I have a long ways to go yet. Beagles are precious, but my heart is with the weimaraners. More about that in another post.
In regard to Indian Lore. I live in Indian Country and love it. I am 1/8 Lakota so I guess that makes Vicki part Indian too.

One of my Good buddies is 100% Lakota. We met when she was a chef on a charter yacht in St Thomas. Quote "one foot on the reservation the other on a boat"

What a small world! My mother was born and raised in the Fort Peck, Montana area, still home to to the Fort Peck reservation where many Lakota still live. Montana is home to at least 10 Native American tribes and has (I think) at least 8 reservations. My great aunt lived in Big Horn near the Battle of the Little Big Horn.
And my family has Cherokee blood I know from many generations ago before homesteading in Montana.I spent some time on genealogy years ago and the internet has an unbelievable amount of material. I couldn't find my Cherokee relative(because they changed their names etc) but traced the family back to Virginia.
Hope you have lots of fun with the dulcimer and the blog! New challenges are always exciting!
